It’s been quite a season for Ben Watson at Forest.
Having found himself largely on the sidelines under Martin O’Neill last year, Watson has been restored to the side under Sabri Lamouchi for the current campaign, making a total of 41 appearances for the club, even earning himself the captain’s armband.
With a string of standout performances, the holding midfielder also looks a strong contender for the club’s player of the year award, with his popularity among the Forest fanbase only continuing to grow.
What makes that all the more impressive from Watson, is the fact that he is doing it at what ought to be the latter stages of his career.
Indeed, the midfielder turned 35-years-old on Thursday, and it seems that has presented Forest fans with the perfect opportunity to pay tribute to his performances so far this season, and urge the club to extend his contract, which is set to end at the conclusion of the current campaign.
Should Ben Watson get a new contract at Forest?YesNo |
As Forest took to Twitter on Thursday morning to wish Watson a happy birthday, plenty of the club’s supporters were on hand to send their own messages to the midfielder, with many reflecting on the contributions he has made throughout the course of the season.
Here, we take a look at what some of those fans had to say.
At the start of the season if you'd have said a now 35 year old Ben Watson was captaining the team and one of our most key players then we'd all have laughed.
Kudos to Ben (and Sabri) for proving us all wrong, incredible season from him 👏

With all due kudos to Samba, Cash, Grabban, Ribiero etc, this man is head and shoulders the Player of the Season for me. To be virtually ever present in this league, in his position, at his age, and be consistently delivering is outstanding 👏🏻#nffc
