Former Nottingham Forest manager Aitor Karanka could be set for a return to the Championship next season, with reports linking the Spaniard with the vacant managerial role at Birmingham City.
The Blues are searching for a new manager following Pep Clotet’s departure earlier this month, and the Birmingham Mail reports that Karanka is being heavily linked with the role.
Karanka’s last managerial came at Forest, where he was in charge for 12 months between January 2018 and January 2019, before being somewhat surprisingly sacked with the club seventh in the Championship table, four points off the play-off places midway through last season.
Would Karanka be a good appointment for Birmingham?YesNo |
Prior to his spell with Forest, Karanka had also spent time managing in England with Middlesbrough, and with several Birmingham fans taking to Twitter keen to know more about the 46-year-old, plenty of Forest fans were keen to give their take on how their former manager could fare at St Andrew’s.
Here, we take a look at what some of those supporters had to say.
He builds from the back. His 1st rule is if you dont concede you cant lose. Once defence is sorted he will add a few flair players. Played good stuff at times and were hard to beat. Habit of falling out with the board though

Karanka will do great at #bcfc. He'll stay for a few months then leave because he thinks he might get sacked #nffc

If karanka does go Birmingham I hope we can go to games when Birmingham come to forest if we don't go up so we can give him the warm welcome he deserves so much. What a man #nffc

He likes to spend money. But yea, weird when he left us. Think he would have got us promoted in the end… If you get him, you will be challening again soon!
