Talk about getting the new year off to the right start.

Nottingham Forest got off to a bang as they defeated Blackburn Rovers 3-2 in a thrilling encounter at the City Ground. Lewis Grabban got two of the home team’s goals, however the performance of right-back Matty Cash also managed to catch the attention of the Nottingham Forest fans after the game.

The defender notched his fourth assist of the season when he set up Joe Lolley for his opener, enough to earn him the joint highest score among the defenders from WhoScored.

So when he posted on his Twitter feed after the game, Forest fans flocked to show their support for him. Not just his efforts on the day, but for his efforts throughout the season as well.

There were reports a couple of months ago that Cash was being linked with a move to a number of Premier League sides, and although those reports have died down somewhat since he signed a new contract in late November. However, if he keeps putting in displays like this, then those rumours might start bubbling up again.

Is Matty Cash the best right-back in the Championship?

Yes

Yes

No

No

So maybe we shouldn’t be singing his praises too much, or it might come back to haunt us.
