They’re slowly starting to get a plan together, but it could still do with a couple of tweaks.

After months of stories about whether or not Sabri Lamouchi would be bringing in someone to help Lewis Grabban take a load off his shoulders and stay fresh for the rest of the season, it looks as if we have our answer.

According to a report in The Athletic, Forest have put Birmingham City forward Lukas Jutkiewicz on their shortlist of potential candidates, with the report later going on to say that “Lamouchi would like to add a forward who is capable of holding up play and keeping the ball in the opposition’s final third.”

And with Jutkiewicz currently third in the Championship when it comes to aerial duels won, it’s fair to say that he fits that mould perfectly.

However, I still think that they are going down the wrong path in pursuing him. I’ve said recently that they shouldn’t bring in someone who can directly challenge him for the starting role, and instead bring in someone who you can call on for maybe four or five games between now and the end of the season, spending the rest of the time on the bench.

That’s why it’s interesting to note the other name that is mentioned in the report from The Athletic, and that’s Brighton’s Glenn Murray.

At age 36, that is the sort of person that we should be going after, someone who is on the back nine of their career, but can still find the back of the net. Given that he’s reached double digits in each of his last three seasons, it’s clear to see he can still offer something, even if it’s on a part-time basis.

Will Forest be in the Top 6 come the end of January?

Yes

No

So hopefully they decide to go for the latter option rather than the former, otherwise it could risk leaving Grabban and Jutkiewicz unhappy if they have to share a role rather than have their jobs firmly established if it were Grabban and Murray.
