It certainly would be a cheap move, let’s just hope that it would be a cheerful one as well.

And it might mean we can actually play a right-back at right-back this season rather than having to put Matty Cash there. Although seeing as he’s been the best in the division this season according to WhoScored, I’m not necessarily saying the move is a bad one.

According to a report from TeamTalk, Nottingham Forest are among a number of clubs that are interested in bringing in Crewe Alexandra defender and captain Perry Ng this summer when his contract expires. Whilst predominantly a right-back, playing 99 of his 156 career appearances there, he has also played elsewhere along the back four as well as in midfield.

With club captain Michael Dawson and Yohan Benalouane nearing the end of their contract, Michael Hefele very much surplus to requirements at the club and Carl Jenkinson pretty much the definition of injury-prone, there is going to need to be a lot of movement at the back for Forest this upcoming summer, and bringing in someone like Ng is an ideal way to fix a number of problems in one stroke.

Not only do you get someone who can fill in at a number of positions, but you are also gaining the leadership that comes with signing a captain, and with Dawson’s contract expiring, it’s a case of one in and one out.

And when you consider that Ng is only 23, and with the club potentially losing a host of elder players in the summer, you really start to get a sense that they can start building something for the long term with him, 23-year-old Joe Worrall, 26-year-old Tobias Figueiredo and 23-year-old Yuri Ribeiro.

Should the club be going after Perry Ng?

All in all, I think you can put this down as a very low risk transfer, that has the potential for very high rewards. Although you do have to question if Sabri Lamouchi is going to be here next season to actually manage him, seeing as he’s the one that’s looking to bring him in.
