So, the first preseason game is officially in the books, which I suppose means that the 2019/20 season is also officially underway.

A little over 24 hours after a lot of plans were thrown out of the window by the sacking of Martin O’Neill and the appointment of Sabri Lamouchi, the team managed to pull itself together in the sweltering heat of a Derbyshire afternoon, pulling out a 2-1 victory over Alfreton Town.

Goals from Brennan Johnson and Karim Ansarifard secured the win for the reds, with the first goal receiving quite a lot of praise for its well-worked build up and confident finish from the young Welshman.

Although you’d have expected a much higher score against a lower league side, I think we can forgive them for not wanting to go full pelt in their first game back, and under such intense conditions.

Most likely as a result of being under the sun a little bit too long this weekend, Forest fans were getting rather giddy with excitement, with one player, in particular, coming in for special commendation. After being used sparingly last season, it looks as if Karim Ansarifard’s performance could shoot him right up the ladder when it comes to being starting centre forward this season.
