Nottingham Forest have been given a boost ahead of Sunday’s trip to Wigan Athletic, with Ryan Yates being pictured back in training with the first-team. The 21-year-old has struggled with a knee injury which led to him having surgery over the summer, but Yates finally appears to be on the recovery trail.

Whether he’s fit enough to make the squad on Sunday remains to be seen, but supporters should see Yates back out on the pitch soon. Forest are favourites to beat Wigan over the weekend and could go top of the Championship if they better West Bromwich Albion’s result.

Yates is now competing to get into a winning side and may have his work cut out to impress Sabri Lamouchi. The Reds manager has preferred Ben Watson and Samba Sow at the heart of the midfield while Alfa Semedo, Tiago Silva, and John Bostock have been often used from the bench.

Competition is so fierce that Claudio Yacob still can’t make the matchday squad. The 32-year-old hasn’t played a single minute of football in the first-team this season. Yates will no doubt be hoping he can edge his way ahead of the Forest outcasts.
