Report: Nottingham Forest ‘interested’ in young Chelsea midfielder

|

According to London Football News, Nottingham Forest are ‘interested’ in Billy Gilmour and could battle Leeds United for his signature. The 18-year-old has been a regular for Chelsea’s u23s and could be loaned out in January to get competitive football at a higher level.

As per Transfermarkt, Gilmour has scored and created 11 goals in 26 games for the u18s, five goals in 12 games for the u19s and 13 goals in 29 days for the reserves. The Scotland u21 international made his first-team debut in the Premier League against Sheffield United (August 31) and also featured in the EFL Cup against Grimbsy Town (September 25).

Gilmour has clearly outgrown Chelsea’s youth & reserve teams, so he may need a new challenge if Frank Lampard can’t hand him more opportunities at senior level. With Mateo Kovacic, Mason Mount, Jorginho, Ross Barkley and N’Golo Kante for competition, Gilmour might have to leave on loan to get first-team football.

The highly-rated midfielder said as much to BBC Scotland earlier this month. Gilmour admitted: “I’m still young and need more experience. I need to play more first-team games, at Chelsea or maybe out on loan.”

London Football News say Forest and Leeds are willing to sign the highly-rated midfielder, so time will tell if the 18-year-old comes to the Championship.
