Sabri Lamouchi recently told Paul Taylor of The Athletic that Ryan Yates could be back ‘after the international break’. The 21-year-old had surgery on a knee injury and could return to training in mid-September. Yates was a regular under Martin O’Neill in 2018/19 and could have an important role to play for Nottingham Forest when he returns.

The English midfielder, who made 17 appearances in all competitions last season, has missed all seven of Forest’s games through injury. In his stead, the likes of Samba Sow, Alfa Semedo, John Bostock, Tiago Silva and Ben Watson have been given opportunities under Lamouchi. Forest face Preston North End on Saturday, August 31 and have a two-week break before their next match.

According to Lamouchi, Yates should return to training during this period. He enjoyed a successful breakthrough campaign in 2019 and is the one who’s been retained over Adlene Guedioura (sold to Al Gharafa) and Claudio Yacob (dropped from the matchday squad) which speaks volumes about his potential.

Yates will be keen to make up for lost time and Lamouchi should be excited to have the midfielder available for selection.
