Nottingham Forest have been linked with a move for Tyrone Mings in January, but it’s unlikely that the out-of-favour Bournemouth man will be arriving at the City Ground for a variety of reasons.

Forest are suffering an injury crisis in defence, but they aren’t short on options at left-back. Mings could improve the squad, but new manager Martin O’Neill has Ben Osborn, Danny Fox and Jack Robinson at his disposal.

He can also play centre-back which would be useful in a temporary capacity as Michael Dawson, Tobias Figueiredo and Michael Hefele are currently sidelined with injury. But when the trio return, O’Neill will be overstocked at the back. He did also just sign Yohan Benalouane to strengthen his options.

It might be hard to convince Mings to join Forest over the other numerous clubs, with the 25-year-old having a lot of interest in his signature this month. Mings is reportedly a target for West Bromwich Albion, Aston Villa and Derby County, so it’s hard to see him choosing the Reds ahead of the trio.

Whether Forest make a genuine attempt to bring Mings to the City Ground before the transfer window shuts remains to be seen, but they may not be successful in procuring his signature.
