There is no questioning the importance of striker Lewis Grabban and his contributions during the current campaign.

The 32-year-old has been sensational for us, scoring 17 goals in 36 appearances, and has been one of our star performers. Being compared as the new Stan Collymore, the City Ground faithful have been deeply impressed with his performances with his prolific record and his eye for goal.

Even Kenny Burns has had high regards for him, even lthough he did previously mentioned that we should cash in on him. Yes, he has been outstanding. But which players in our current crop get close to his goalscoring record.

The answer? Joe Lolley, a midfielder with seven to his name. Sammy Ameobi has just three goals, but in his defence, he is being utilised out wide. Other than that, nobody is giving Grabban a boost for the occasional game when he plays poorly.

Is Lewis Grabban Forest's most important player?

No

He needs a dance partner at the top end of the pitch or someone that can score just as many or more than Grabban can. I admit, that concept is easier said than done, but at the same time, it is a necessary step for us to move forward as a club.

We have been previously linked with a move for Galatasaray forward Mbaye Diagne, as per Fotomac (via Sport Witness). He is currently on loan at the Belgian side Club Brugge. Is he clinical enough? Well, he has four goals from one start and five appearances from the bench.

Last season, he found the net 20 times in 17 games for the Super Lig outfit Kasimpama with an average of 3.9 shots per game. This easily tops Grabbans record with 2.2 shots per game. The Senegalese striker is the man that could provide sufficient reinforcement in the striking department for us to be able to improve. As I previously said, Diagne would be a perfect replacement for Ameobi.

But at this moment in time, there is no football taking place due to the coronavirus pandemic. When the transfer window opens, Forest must prioritise strengthening our attack.
