According to Jonny Bonell & Tom Leach of Nottinghamshire Live, Michael Hefele is ‘edging closer’ to returning. The 29-year-old hasn’t played a single minute of football this season due to his achilles injury and has received specialist treatment in Germany.

Hefele’s last appearance for Forest came against Leeds United on January 1. He was hauled off after five minutes and has been sidelined ever since. The centre-back has featured 18 times since joining from Huddersfield Town in August 2018, but he may not add to his tally this season.

Michael Dawson and Joe Worrall have been regulars in defence while Chema Rodriguez, Tobias Figueiredo, Alexander Milosevic and Jack Robinson can provide cover. It’s hard to see Sabri Lamouchi giving Hefele the nod, but his return will still be welcomed.

The Reds have been watertight at the back this season. Only Leeds United have conceded fewer goals (7) than Sabri Lamouchi’s men (10). Hefele will have to raise his standards on the training ground to stand a chance of being picked on matchday, as his form last season was an issue before the injury.
