Nottingham Forest enjoyed a 2-1 win over Luton Town and Matty Cash was praised by some supporters for his contribution. The 22-year-old has shone as a makeshift right-back under Sabri Lamouchi this season, having filled in for the injured Tandayi Darikwa & Carl Jenkinson, and was outstanding at Kenilworth Road on Saturday afternoon.
Cash set a Championship record for tackles (11) over the weekend and played his part in Forest returning to winning ways. Lamouchi could have had an issue at right-back after losing both his first and second-choice due to lengthy injuries, but he arguably has the best option in Cash and could stick with him for the season.
Great game yesterday MC you had your hands full with that winger and passed the test. #nffc

Workmanlike performance today, efficient, structured & clinical.
Cash – terrific yet again, charging down umpteen crosses & making several tackles.
Ribeiro – put a great shift in, tirelessly up & down the left flank, linking up well with the wingers.#NFFC

He is a machine.
Closing space and making tackles. Full-back was a position made for him.
Never mind his attacking ability. Not just in the attacking part of the pitch but he turns defensive situations from us into attacks & relieves pressure.
Keep going Matty. https://t.co/XCAbv6jvQS

At the start of the season, I was dubious because he really struggled at times against WBA and Leeds at times. But completely proved me wrong since then. Turned into one of the best RB’s in the league. Jenko is not gunna be able to get near the team unless Cash gets injured #nffc

Against Luton, the Englishman made 59 touches, completed 50% of his 18 passes, made five interceptions, whipped in three crosses, made 11 tackles, created one chance, made four clearances, drew one foul, made one successful dribble and won three aerial duels.
Is Matty Cash the best right-back in the Championship?
Yes
No
This season, Cash has made 16 appearances in all competitions, scoring and creating four goals. Forest boast the third-best defensive record in the Championship (13), and only two clubs (Bristol City & West Bromwich Albion) have lost fewer games.
The Midlands derby is next for Forest – Derby (home) on November 9.
