Nottingham Forest enjoyed a 1-0 win over Swansea City on Saturday afternoon and Matty Cash came away with a lot of plaudits from supporters. The 22-year-old started at right-back in Carl Jenkinson’s absence and delivered a sterling performance at the Liberty Stadium.

Against the Swans, Cash played for 90 minutes, made 46 touches, won one aerial duel, had two shots, completed 78% of his 23 passes, made one tackle, completed one dribble, made one interception and made four clearances.

Despite being a natural winger, Cash has played at right-back and right wing-back a lot in 2019. He was used in the makeshift role under Martin O’Neill last season and was a regular in 2019/20 before Jenkinson replaced him.

Until the 27-year-old returns from injury, Cash is likely to keep his place in defence. He played his part in Forest keeping another clean sheet and has all the attributes as an industrious wide-man to operate in the role.

The Reds are currently ninth in the Championship with 12 points from seven games, having picked up three wins and two draws from their last five. Forest next face Barnsley at home on September 21.
