Well, this certainly was a bit of a surprise.
Not only given his age, but the fact that he’s taken a bit of a back seat for the majority of the season, I honestly assumed that he was going to transition into a coach over the next few months.
But no, looks like he’s not done yet.
I’m talking of course about club captain Michael Dawson, the 36-year-old defender and Forest academy graduate has signed a new deal at the club, keeping him in West Bridgford for at least another year. Precisely what role he is going to play over the next 12 months is anyone’s guess at this stage, especially as he isn’t playing as much these days.
But seeing as he developed quite the partnership with Joe Worrall at the start of the campaign I assume that it will be more of the same ‘tutor’ sort of role, with the odd game thrown in here and there when the younger centre-backs need a rest.
Were Forest right to extend Dawson's contract?
Yes
No
Whilst we wait to find out what his future holds, this was the reaction of Forest fans on social media, all of whom seem to be pretty excited about it.
Booooom

Great news. He might not play all that much but his presence and leadership qualities are important for us. 👍🏻

That’s good news. However many centre halves we have, always room for Daws. @JoeWorrall5 should chip in a few quid as he’ll learn a lot from the old bloke. He’s forgotten more than some ever learn. 💪🏻❤️🤣
