Forest have a welcome break from League 1 action this weekend, due to the fact that three of their players have been called up for international duties. Sammy Clingan is away with Northern Ireland, Junior Agogo is with the Ghana squad and Brendan Moloney is with the Rep of Ireland U19’s.

The break will be welcomed by the club as it gives our walking wounded more time to recover. Chris Cohen is threatening to be available for the Port Vale game, Breckin, and Tyson are well on the road to recovery and by the time Vale comes round there may be good news on Lockwood and Davies who appear to have slipped off the radar.

The not so welcome news is that by the time we’re all tucking into our tea on Saturday, depending how results go. Forest could be sitting in the relegation zone of League 1. It may still be early days, but the sight of the Reds sitting with the basement boys, will not be pleasant viewing and will only give more ammunition to the anti Calderwood brigade.

The Reds currently sit in 18th place, separated only by goal difference from Oldham in 21st. It’s probably as much of a surprise to see Oldham occupying such a lowly position, as they were tipped as potential title chasers along with ourselves. This all goes to show that it’s still early days and we shouldn’t read too much into the tables just yet. But the thought of Forest dropping further without even playing a game won’t do much for the confidence of the side. One little piece of comfort for those ready to hit the panic button if it happens, is that this time last year both Scunthorpe and Bristol City had much worse starts than us. I think we can all agree that things turned out OK for them in the end. I think it will for us as well.
