Matty Cash has deputised for the injured Carl Jenkinson and Tendayi Darikwa this season and continues to shine in a makeshift role. The 22-year-old is a natural winger, but his high levels of industry and combative playing style make him a good fit for right-back.
Sabri Lamouchi had no issues turning to Cash when Jenkinson was ruled out of action, and he will be impressed with what he’s seen from the Englishman. Against Barnsley, Cash played for a full 90 minutes, made 64 touches and created one chance which resulted in an assist for the winning goal.
Good game again Matty 👍

The cut-back from Matty Cash perfect for the Watson goal. Cash has really discovered his form again under Lamouchi and it’s great to see. A very talented young player #NFFC

He completed 73.7% of his 38 passes, made one interception, whipped in one cross, made one tackle, had two successful dribbles and made one clearance. Cash has made nine appearances in all competitions this season, at least seven of which have come at right-back under Lamouchi.
Even when Jenkinson and Darikwa return from injury, Cash could keep his place in the defence as Forest are currently thriving. The Reds are sixth in the Championship, boast a nine-game unbeaten in all competitions and have the third-best defensive record in the division.
