Quite simply, Wednesday was a night absolutely no one associated with Nottingham Forest will ever want to remember again.
Having looked so comfortable in a play-off place for almost all of the season, the final day of the regular campaign saw Forest somehow conspire to throw that top six spot away.
Needing just a point to guarantee a shot at promotion via the play-offs, Forest imploded, losing 4-1 at home to Stoke at The City Ground, which combined with Swansea’s victory over Reading by the same scoreline, saw the Welsh club get the five-goal swing in goal difference they needed to overhaul Forest in the table.
Combine that with Cardiff’s routine victory over League One-bound Hull, and Forest somehow managed to slip from fifth to seventh in the standings in the course of one, decisive, evening.
Taking to Twitter to react after the game, plenty of Forest fans were understandably furious with the events they had seen unfold, with manager Sabri Lamouchi taking the brunt of those frustrations.
