Some Nottingham Forest fans have been looking back in awe on our famous 2-0 victory against Ajax in 1980.
The Reds turned around their 1-0 defeat away at the Amsterdam to ensure that we qualified for our second successive European Cup final, which we would go on to win and be the first team since Liverpool two years before to do so.
Goals from Trevor Francis and a penalty in the second half from John Robertson made sure that legendary boss Brian Clough would get the success that he deserves.
Was the Ajax win the greatest night in the City Ground's history?
Yes
No
Since our triumph, no other English team has managed to successfully retain the European Cup or the Champions League.
As a result, supporters were ecstatic to see these fond memories and made their feelings clear on social media. One fan said that this was one of the many “truly great days and great memories”, while another described the game as “fantastic”.
Great night , never made the 2nd leg ( bloody exams ) but got promised the final if we got there , the rest is history .
