‘Superb’, ‘Quality’ – some fans laud Nottingham Forest defender after Blackburn draw

|

Nottingham Forest drew 1-1 with Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday evening and Tobias Figueiredo was one of many players who came away with praise from supporters on social media.

The 25-year-old was making only his first Championship appearance of the season, having previously been an unused substitute, but he performed well on the night and vindicated his selection.

Against Blackburn, Figueiredo played a full 90 minutes, made 52 touches, won five aerial duels, made one interception, completed 61.5% of his 39 passes, made one successful dribble and made 10 clearances.

The Portugal B international came in for the injured Michael Dawson and started alongside Joe Worrall – Chema Rodriguez was named on the bench while Alexander Milosevic failed to make the matchday squad.

Figueiredo has had to be patient for opportunities under Sabri Lamouchi – before Tuesday’s game, he’d only featured in the EFL Cup this season. The central defender was a regular in 2018/19, but Dawson and Worrall have been solid.

Only five clubs have a better defensive record than Forest in the Championship (9). The Reds are also unbeaten in their last nine games and have conceded one or less goals in eight of them.

As Dawson is likely to be out against Brentford on October 5, Figueiredo could start alongside Worrall once more.
