Report shows that things could have been a whole lot different at Forest this season – Report

|

I think we can officially label this one as ‘dodging a bullet’.

Well, that might be a tad harsh on the man in question, but there’s some logic in there somewhere.

Given how popular Brice Samba is proving to be amongst the Nottingham Forest fan base, it might surprise a couple of people to know that things could have been very different if the Reds had been successful in bringing in someone else in the window.

A report from the Daily Mail suggests that Forest had a £1.5m bid rejected for Rangers goalkeeper Wes Foderingham. The Rangers keeper’s contract runs out at the end of the season, and could be on the move to America according to the report, but could have ended up on Trentside had Forest pushed a little bit more cash in Rangers’ direction.

Personally I’m glad that we didn’t get this deal done in the end. Partly because of how good Samba has proven to be, but also because I’m not entirely sure on Foderingham. I always have a little bit of doubt when it comes to players from the Old Firm in Scotland. Are they really all that good? Or do their numbers just get padded somewhat because they are usually so far ahead of the rest of the league.

Now whilst we can never be 100% certain that things would have played out the same way, and some credit does need to go to the defensive pairing of Michael Dawson and Joe Worrall for their part in this season as well, I think we can safely say that judging by how the season has gone so far, that Forest were lucky in being rejected for Foderingham and picking up Samba instead.

What about you? Do you think that we got the right end of the bargain in going after Samba instead? Or do you think that someone like Foderingham would have been the better option?
