Sabri Lamouchi says that Joe Lolley and Matty Cash were left out of Nottingham Forest’s matchday squad for Saturday’s draw at Preston as a precaution, and has suggested that Cash could feature against Swansea City on Wednesday.

Cash and Lolley were two of four players to drop out of Forest’s side for the trip to Deepdale after playing in last Tuesday’s defeat to Fulham, with Tobias Figueiredo and Tiago Silva both dropping to the bench.

Explaining why Cash and Lolley didn’t even make the squad for the trip to Lancashire, Lamouchi told Nottinghamshire Live: “Joe Lolley was not fit enough and with Cashy, it was a little bit risky to put him in for this game.

“I’m not sure it’s a good time to take a risk.”

Discussing when Cash could make his return to the side, and revealing the reasons behind his caution with the duo, Lamouchi continued: “Cashy has a small injury, but we will check him tomorrow and Monday.

“It was so risky to play him today. But potentially for Swansea, he could be back. We will see tomorrow and before Swansea.

“But we don’t have just three games to play, so if we lose one player now it is not for three games, it is for the end of the season.”

This does seem to be a sensible approach for Lamouchi to take.

Both Cash and Lolley have been outstanding for Forest this season, so they are not going to want to take a chance on losing either of them for an extended period.

Indeed, it looks as though there is a strong possibility that Forest will make the play-off this season, so it seems sensible not to play them now, if it means they could lose two key players for those promotion deciders in around two week’s time.
