Nottingham Forest are the latest club to have gone down the route of the government’s job retention scheme, according to reports.

The Championship season is currently on hold due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, which has seen the majority of sport across Europe brought to a halt. With medical experts suggesting that the illness has yet to peak in the UK, there is no clear indication as to when football will return to the City Ground.

As a result, Forest have reportedly had to take drastic action to protect the financial stability of the club going forward.

Although an official statement has yet to be released by the Reds, the Nottingham Post revealed that they will also take advantage of the use of taxpayer’s money.

Are Forest right to take advantage of the furlough scheme?

The likes of Liverpool were intensely scrutinised for their involvement in the project, with midfielder Joe Lolley voicing his concerns about their decision. But now the club have made the 27-year-old look foolish by going down the same route.

The report does not suggest how many staff will be helped out by the support that is being offered. However many are affected, this is a terrible decision for the club to make. The scheme was designed for small businesses and not for a multi-million-pound organisation to take advantage of. I’m so disappointed and confused as to why we have done this.

Our owner Evangelos Marinakis was being linked with buying a third club but either cannot afford or refuses to pay his staff. I hope we do what Liverpool’s owners did and take a drastic U-turn on this.
