Nottingham Forest striker Nuno da Costa is on his path to full fitness and has been showcasing his efforts.

The Cape Verde international moved to the City Ground in January for a reported fee of €2m (£1.8m) from the Ligue 1 outfit Strasbourg but did not have the start that he would have wanted.

His only appearance for the Reds was during our 1-0 defeat to Charlton Athletic in February before the season was postponed by the EFL due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. After this, he found himself sidelined after suffering a muscle injury during an U23s match against Crewe and has not featured for us since.

The 29-year-old used the season’s unscheduled break to post a video on Twitter of himself working towards match sharpness, along with his son.

Because of this, he has been unable to show us what he can really do. While at Strasbourg, he scored just twice in 20 appearances during the first half of the 2019/20 campaign, while last season he scored eight times in 39 outings in all competitions.

Will Nuno da Costa play again this season?

His injury came at a time where we really could have done with him playing, with Lewis Grabban being our outstanding performer in the striking department with 17 goals.

Who knows if we would have beaten Middlesbrough or Millwall had Da Costa been playing. His input could have changed the outcome of those games had he been fit and firing.

We will all have to be patient and let him take his time to bed into the squad, and his contribution will be crucial in our chase for automatic promotion when the season gets started again.
