Ben Watson has been fantastic for us this season and one of our best captains in years.

Before you question me, I am not for one minute stating that he is in the same conversation as John McGovern, but I do believe that he has been an inspiration for us. The man himself credited Watson for the work that he’s done during the three seasons the FA Cup winner has been with us.

He was recently described as a “role model” by his 22-year-old teammate Matty Cash and added that he is the best player that he’s personally played with so far.

It’s hard to disagree with his comment, considering he has played all 37 Championship fixtures during the current campaign.

Is Ben Watson one of Forest's best captains in recent years?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Fans have been bowled over by him this season and he has come out of the shadows to become one of our most important players, and the fans have recognised that.

Watson has become a better player under the watchful eye of Sabri Lamouchi this season and has stepped up to the plate to make his critics eat their own words.

We all knew what he had in his locker after scoring a last-gasp winner during Wigan Athletic’s 1-0 win against Manchester City in the 2013 FA Cup final. With his current contract set to expire at the end of the season, questions still remain as to whether he will extend his stay at the City Ground.

For me, Evangelos Marinakis should be doing everything he can to ensure that Watson is still with us next season, especially if we achieve promotion to the Premier League.
