Pictured: Yohan Benalouane returns to training ahead of Derby clash

Yohan Benalouane is back in training ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Derby County and posted a picture on Instagram to mark his long-awaited return.

The 32-year-old has been out of action since April with a back injury and underwent surgery to fix the problem. It’s unlikely he’ll be fit to face Derby, but Benalouane could be in a position to play after the November international break.

Whether he gets the nod from Sabri Lamouchi remains to be seen, however. Benalouane will have stiff competition from Joe Worrall, Michael Dawson, Chema Rodriguez and Tobias Figueiredo for a starting place, so he may struggle for playing time.

Alexander Milosevic was fifth in the pecking order and left Forest by mutual consent in October, so Benalouane might also consider his future at the City Ground if opportunities continue to allude him.

The Tunisian international has made 14 appearances in all competitions since joining from Leicester City in January and is unlikely to add to his tally. Benalouane was criticised for poor performances and guilty of poor discipline, so he won’t be missed in the East Midlands.
