Opinion: Worrall’s deal should be an indicator of things to come, but the board must act quick

Like a set of dominoes, I’m just hoping that one deal is going to lead to another sooner rather than later.

Or it’s just another piece in a much larger puzzle. Whichever analogy you wish to attribute to this news, the point remains the same. And judging by some of the comments when it seemed apparent Joe Worrall was going to sign his new deal, it looks as if I’m not the only one that is wondering when the next bit of good news is going to come.

I can’t help but think that this season is being used as a foundation for something long-term. Not only do we now have Worrall tied down but Matty Cash as well, on top of that there’s also the emergence of young talent like Brennan Johnson who has also put pen to paper this campaign.

However there is still one thing missing, and I know it’s something I’ve written about plenty before, but the fact that something still hasn’t been done about it is the frustrating part, and that’s Sabri Lamouchi’s contract.

Paul Taylor of The Athletic has stated before that the confidence the board holds in Lamouchi is largely dictated by results, saying that his position “was not quite so safe following the drubbing from Sheffield Wednesday”, which makes you think that maybe the game against Charlton has given them pause for thought.

However, we shouldn’t be waiting any longer to give him a new deal and we certainly shouldn’t be judging him on a more or less game by game basis.

The moves that Forest have made this season, especially the ones I pointed out earlier, give the indication that there is a long-term plan in place at the club, but to make it all run smoother, we need to have a manager in charge to oversee the whole thing.

Will Lamouchi be Forest manager next season?

Yes

Yes

No

No

And the sooner that we can get him tied down, the sooner this project at the City Ground can kick into the next gear.
