It seems to be the never ending story at the City Ground for the past few weeks.

And it doesn’t seem to be ending any time soon.

Marcus McGuane and his move to the City Ground has been one that has been going on for the best part of a month and according to noted journalist Paul Taylor pointed out both in a recent Q&A for The Athletic and on Twitter, it could still be another week or two before it is all finalized. Apparently everything is fine on the Nottingham Forest end of things, they’re just waiting for paperwork to be done in Barcelona for the deal to be given the official green light.

In my mind, I think that this whole deal needs to be called off, purely because there is so much uncertainty surrounding the club right now, that it would be best for us to just take a breather and reassess the whole thing in the summer.

First off you have the current situation with Sabri Lamouchi’s contract, and the fact that it still remains unsigned, meaning that it’s possible he might not even be here in the summer. And whilst McGuane has been muted to play in the U23 side rather than the seniors, there could be a new manager coming in who might not see a future for him, meaning this move was a waste of time.

Secondly, given how precariously placed we are near the top of the table, and we’re not quite sure what division we’re going to be in next season, that could play a huge part in how the squad is set up going forward. Will we need him as an extra body in the senior side in the Premier League, or if players like Joe Lolley and Matty Cash among others have to be sold off if we stay down, will that give him more of a role in the first team?

It would just make sense for us to calm things down a little bit and focus on where we are going to be next season before we start making moves that could have an impact on our future.

Should the club still be pursuing Marcus McGuane?
