Following the appointment of Martin O’Neill as Nottingham Forest’s new manager following the departure of Aitor Karanka, it’s been reported today that Wigan Athletic hoped to take advantage of the situation and snare soon to be out of contract defender Danny Fox.

The 32-year-old finds himself without a club come the summer, but O’Neill will be keen to assess the whole squad quickly before he makes any decisions about the futures of player, and it certainly makes sense for our current team captain to remain at the club as O’Neill gets his feet under the desk.

Whether we are actually open to a deal remains to be seen, but it could just be the offer was way too low to tempt our hand but with 21 appearances to his name in the campaign of 2018/19, despite his contract status, it may well be decided that it suits our purposes better to keep him with us even if that means losing him over the summer for nothing.

His immediate future won’t be much clearly in O’Neill’s opening game in the dugout as having been dismissed for two yellow cards in the defeat to Reading, Fox will serve his automatic ban this coming weekend.
