With news yesterday that Wigan Athletic had made a firm offer for defender Danny Fox, one guess was that it was knocked back as new Nottingham Forest manager Martin O’Neill wanted an opportunity to assess the whole group, and it seems that assumption was the correct one to take.
With reports about the 32-year-old circulating yesterday, the fact he is out of contract over the summer left me wondering also if Wigan had simply tested their luck and come in with an offer that didn’t meet our valuation and was too low to effectively cash in at this stage.
As the day went on, Nottingham Post journalist Paul Taylor took to Twitter to offer.
There is interest from Wigan in Danny Fox – told Martin O'Neill wants a few days at least to forge an opinion on his squad, so don't expect them to accept an offer for anyone, until he has had the chance to do that #nffc

Given Fox has performed well for us this season in the eyes of many (although not all), as we flirted with the Play-Off spots, not taking a hasty decision to free up some cash makes all the sense in the world, and given O’Neill’s natural demeanour, plenty of fans welcome the idea that we now have a longer term outlook on things at the club.
Why would #nffc even contemplate letting Fox leave given how well he has been playing and our shortage of central defenders

The one thing where Martin O’ Neill is superior to most other managers is his intellect. So I don’t expect any stupid decisions in the next two weeks. Decisions will be the result of intelligent appraisal in my view.

This is the best tweet I have seen in a long time, Danny Fox is the most overrated player we have. Should never step foot on the pitch again for Forest after the weekend.

As enthusiastic about the club as he may be, about time we packed him off .. no team with serious aspirations for promotion should entertain Danny Fox in there squad. #levels #NFFC

Given how well Fox has done recently, and how he has endeared himself to the fans, I think it would be a mistake to sell – especially as we're in a defensive crisis. #NFFC

Fox is not among the highest earners at the club. And – prior to Reading – he had been playing very well. Worrall's future does not have to be intertwined with his.
