Nottingham Forest gave an official injury update about Ryan Yates, revealing the midfielder ‘remains sidelined’ but is ‘nearing a return’ to fitness. Yates has been out of action all season with a knee injury and underwent surgery to fix the problem.

The 21-year-old has made 17 appearances in all competitions since rising through the youth ranks to the Forest first-team. His last outing for the Reds came against Bolton Wanderers on May 5, but supporters could see him out on the pitch soon.

Forest’s next five fixtures

  • 27/9/19 (Championship) Stoke City
  • 1/10/19 (Championship) Blackburn Rovers
  • 5/10/19 (Championship) Brentford
  • 20/10/19 (Championship) Wigan Athletic
  • 23/10/19 (Championship) Hull City

Yates could be back in October, but he will have stiff competition upon his return with Ben Watson, Alfa Semedo, Samba Sow, Tiago Silva and John Bostock all battling for a place in midfield – Lamouchi has preferred Watson and Sow of late while Claudio Yacob still can’t make the matchday squad.

Forest have so much depth in the engine room and their bright start to the season could make it difficult for returning players to get a look-in. Yates needs to impress on the training ground.
