Official: Nottingham Forest man ‘is a doubt’ against Arsenal after ‘picking up a knock’

|

Nottingham Forest have given an official injury update on Sammy Ameobi, revealing that the 27-year-old ‘is a doubt’ ahead of Tuesday night’s EFL Cup clash with Arsenal after ‘picking up a knock’ against Barnsley on Saturday.

Ameobi has impressed since his move from Bolton Wanderers this summer but has been short of goals. The Englishman has made nine appearances in all competitions but only has one assist to his name.

He came off the bench in the second-half of Forest’s 1-0 win and came away with some discomfort which could present a problem to Sabri Lamouchi.

Lewis Grabban has been rested for both of Forest’s EFL Cup games against Fleetwood Town (August 13) and Derby County (August 27) and may be left out of the starting eleven on Tuesday. Playing three matches in a week might be too much for the 31-year-old.

The Reds are challenging for the Championship playoffs, so it isn’t worth risking injury for the sake of the EFL Cup.

Rafa Mir won’t be able to deputise in his stead as he’s still out of action with a leg injury. And if Ameobi isn’t fit to feature either, Lamouchi has a difficult decision to make on who to name up front.
