Nottingham Forest have confirmed that Rafa Mir ‘will miss out’ against Arsenal in Tuesday night’s EFL Cup clash. The Reds booked their place in the third round of the competition after beating Fleetwood Town 1-0 (August 13) in the first round and Derby County 3-0 (August 27) in the second.

The 22-year-old has been out of action with a leg injury, missing Forest’s 1-0 wins over Swansea City (August 14) and Barnsley (September 21). His absence leaves Sabri Lamouchi short on options as Mir was providing cover for Lewis Grabban.

Grabban has been in fantastic form this season, contributing five goals in eight games, but Lamouchi hasn’t used him in the EFL Cup. The 31-year-old could struggle to play three matches within a week – Barnsley (September 21), Arsenal (September 24), Stoke City (September 27), so a rest in midweek may be necessary.

Forest didn’t disclose in their latest injury update when Mir will return. In his and Grabban’s absence, Lamouchi has Sammy Ameobi and Zach Clough available in attack while Idris Kadded is in the u23s.
