Nottingham Forest man could be out until August, was left out of pre-season squad

Joao Carvalho could be out of action until August with an ankle injury and has been left out of Nottingham Forest’s pre-season squad.

According to Paul Taylor of Nottinghamshire Live, Forest haven’t given a return date for Carvalho, but they’re hoping to have the midfielder back in training before the 2019/20 campaign starts. Their first game of the season is against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, August 3.

The 22-year-old is expected to be an important player under Sabri Lamouchi, but the new Forest manager won’t be able to see his star midfielder in action during their five-day pre-season tour in Greece.

Carvalho suffered the ankle injury in a friendly against Alfreton on June 29, and Lamouchi may have to wait a number of weeks before the playmaker returns to full fitness. There is also the risk that the Portuguese u21 international could be out for months.

Carvalho’s future at the City Ground was in doubt this summer after Olympiacos were linked with his signature. Reports suggested that Evangelos Marinakis was considering moving on the midfielder to help fund a summer spending spree, but nothing came from the story.
