Five first-team players left at home Nottingham Forest confirm pre-season squad

|

Nottingham Forest confirmed their 26-man squad for Friday’s pre-season tour of Greece, leaving out Luke Steele, Michael Hefele, Joao Carvalho, Karim Ansarifard and Daryl Murphy. Liam Bridcutt was also left at home. Sabri Lamouchi included several players from the youth squad and could give them a chance to prove their worth ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.

Steele took to Twitter on Thursday to play down suggestions that his omission was due to Lamouchi wanting to sell him. He was part of the training camp in Spain, so the goalkeeper may still have a future at Forest. Hefele and Murphy may not, however. Ansarifard is also absent and has been linked with a move away. Carvalho’s absence is injury related.

Nottingham Forest’s 26-man squad contains: Aro Muric, Costel Pantilimon, Jordan Smith; Matty Cash, Tendayi Darikwa, Michael Dawson, Tobias Figueiredo, Alex Milosevic, Yuri Ribeiro, Jayden Richardson, Jack Robinson, Joe Worrall; Arvin Appiah, Toby Edser, Brennan Johnson, Ben Osborn, Alfa Semedo, Tiago Silva, Ben Watson, Claudio Yacob; Albert Adomah, Sammy Ameobi, Lewis Grabban, Joe Lolley, Alex Mighten and Tyler Walker.

Forest travel to Athens on Friday, July 12 for a five-day trip to Greece. They’ll have friendlies against Atromitos on July 13 and Olympiacos on July 16. Lamouchi has wasted little time including all six of the Reds’ summer signings – Ameobi, Silva, Ribeiro, Semedo, Muric, Adomah – so supporters will be able to get a glimpse of how the club could line up when the new season starts.

The East Midlands club have played in two pre-season friendlies so far, beating Alfreton Town 2-1 and drawing 0-0 to Dundee.
