‘Not good enough’ – 81% of polled fans don’t want Nottingham Forest to sign 30-year-old

Nottingham Forest currently have a problem in attack, with Lewis Grabban and Daryl Murphy struggling for goals while Karim Ansarifard and Hilel Soudani have struggled for fitness and playing time this season. It may lead to new manager Martin O’Neill signing a striker in January, but who should he look at?

Victor Anichebe is currently a free agent after leaving Beijing Enterprises, but he had been playing Premier League football just 18 months ago. The 30-year-old doesn’t have the best scoring record in the top-flight – scoring only 27 goals in 204 games – but he could still be a handful in the Championship with the right supporting cast.

With Grabban having scored just two goals since November, Murphy netting just once since August, Ansarifard has been out of the matchday squad and Soudani has been sidelined with injury, Forest might be in need of another centre-forward. The Reds have raised £40m in the last three seasons which allowed them a bigger spend last summer.

The majority of their purchases have been a hit this campaign. Forest are expected to spend money in January, but Anichebe would be a cheap option if necessary. There are only two weeks left of the transfer window, so O’Neill needs to move quickly to ensure the squad is ready for a playoff push.
