Any transfer that Forest are going to make are going to have to be permanent transfers before the deadline tonight, as loan signings aren’t what he is looking for the strengthen. Well this is if Billy Davies gets his way anyway.
The ‘three or four stellar signings’ that Davies has been looking for have, as yet, not come – so, unless these can be purchased on a loan basis then he does not want to go down that route: ‘The loan window is not an option for this club to go down and progress.
‘The loan window is very appropriate for the situation we were in during the season before last, when we were hanging on for survival and had one foot in the grave when it came to relegation.’
The likelihood of players of that quality becoming available are not that likely according to the Forest manager so it would appeal that Davies’ transfer dealings will be done when the transfer window closes today: ‘This is a different situation. We are talking about a club that has finished third in the Championship and for me, unless you are bringing in players of the quality of Craig Bellamy and Jason Koumas on loan it is not worth it.
‘I have experienced and suffered in the loan market enough already over the years. If you are building a young team and building a squad, then you have to build on the wonderful foundations we have laid already.
‘There is no point in us not doing that now because we have put the work in.’
With the new 25-man squad ruling in the premier league then ‘maybe’ it would still be possible to bring in quality loan additions as there ‘should’ be plenty of surplus for clubs to pick up, and players will need to move on or they literally play no football for 6-months otherwise.
It might not be what Davies wants, and might not exactly be adding to what has been built up as the chances of signing ‘star names’ permanently would not be that great, but sometimes needs must and all that…
