Nottingham Forest today lost their battle to keep hold of star defender Chris Gunter, as he completed a deal that sees him make the switch to newly promoted Reading.

Gunter has been the subject of a move to the Royals since before the last season ended and it was hoped that with the announcement of new owners at the City Ground, that Gunter could be persuaded to stay. Unfortunately that didn’t happen and he becomes the second Reds’ player to join the Berkshire club this summer, following in the footsteps Gareth McCleary.

The popular Welshman moves for an undisclosed fee and has secured a three year deal with the option of a further year with the Royals. Forest paid Spurs £1.75m for Gunter in 2009 and he made over 150 appearances for the Reds’ in his time with the club. Good luck to Chris Gunter with the rest of his career. I don’t think there can be any doubt, that he served Forest well.
