McCarthy Not For Forest

Former Ireland and Wolves boss Mick McCarthy was widely tipped as the successor to Steve Cotterill, who was sacked by the new owners of Nottingham Forest last week. However, various media sources are now reporting that McCarthy has turned the job down.

The real reasons behind McCarthy not taking up the vacant manager role at Forest will never be known, but the suggestions in the media, are that he didn’t feel he would have the control of team affairs that he would want. There is also a belief in some quarters that the new owners decided at the last minute not to offer McCarthy the job and have turned their attentions elsewhere. Whatever the truth is, we will more than likely never know, but the simple fact is McCarthy will not be the new manager and the search goes on.

Former England manager Glenn Hoddle has also apparently turned the job down, as has Harry Redknapp. Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson continues to be linked, as does Roy Keane, Stuart Pearce, Nigel Clough, Gordon Strachan, Alan Curbishley and Billy Davies, to name but a few.
