In the last seven days, the bookies have made an absolute killing from football supporters betting on the man to replace Steve Cotterill as the next Forest boss. Those bookies will be laughing all the way to their banks tomorrow, as Sean O’Driscoll is officially announced as the new manager of Nottingham Forest.
O’Driscoll has come from nowhere in the betting markets to romp home and become the 4th manager of the Reds’ in the past 13 months. This time last year, Forest had just parted company with Billy Davies and made the ‘iconic,’ yet ill fated appointment of former England boss Steve McClaren. He lasted for just over 100 days, only to be replaced by Steve Cotterill. Whilst Steve saved us from what looked like almost certain relegation, it’s not unkind to say he never quite won over the fans.
Fast forward to 19 July, 2012 and Forest make what could turn out to be an appointment that will be well accepted by the majority of the NFFC fan base. O’Driscoll might not be the ‘iconic’ figure the new owners were suggesting, but he could be the right one. When SOD took up his position as First Team Coach under Steve Cotterill, the fortunes of the team were transformed and we began to not only pick up some much needed points, we also began playing some neat attractive football as well.

Sean’s passion for Nottingham Forest, knowledge of the game and the Championship in particular, plus his work ethic, shone through in our conversations. He is hugely respected, not only by members of our current squad and staff at the Club for his work in helping transform our fortunes last season, but also within the wider football community.’
O’Driscoll left Forest at the end of last season, to take up the role of manager at League 1 Crawley Town. Welcome back to the City Ground, Sean O’Driscoll.
