COLIN Calderwood told the NEP today that he believes Nottingham Forest have demonstrated they have the character, desire and team spirit to succeed in League One.
The Reds have had the perfect start to the season. Back to back wins have given Calderwood maximum points in his first two games in charge.
As they had done against Bradford on Saturday, Forest demonstrated great resilience to soak up pressure from the home side before goals from Jack Lester and Grant Holt decided things.
Calderwood has constantly stated the importance of character in any successful team since taking over at the City Ground.
And he believes his side have demonstrated those qualities in abundance in their first two games.
”There was a huge amount of effort from the lads. It is as much mental as it is physical. The boys were very aware of what a victory would do for us here,” he said.
”That comes from the attitude in the dressing room and from the competition for places. They know they have to be committed, they know they have to be determined. Effort is what we expect from them and that is what they are producing. They are desperate to win.
”I hope the fans see that the players are giving everything because they are. But there is also a determination, a determination not to get beaten. There is a determination in every pass and challenge.”
Calderwood stated before kick-off that victory would send out a message to the rest of League One, from the pre season promotion favourites.
”We are very happy with a second straight win. We wanted to make an early impression on our away form and it was a solid performance from start to finish,” he said.
”People try to label me a defensive coach, but I think it is the other way round. We work on the attacking play all week and it is credit to the boys the way they defended.
”It is about attitude and effort and from that point of view the lads made it difficult for Blackpool.’
