Star man Tyson out

FOREST face losing Nathan Tyson for as long as six months as they attempt to put together a League One promotion push.

The striker damaged medial ligaments in his knee as the Reds kick-started their season with a 1-0 success over Bradford. Although the club will not discover exactly how bad the injury is until tomorrow or Wednesday, the early diagnosis is not good.

The best case scenario is likely to be around six weeks on the sidelines – but if the injury is serious then the former Wycombe man could be missing for much longer.

Manager Colin Calderwood admits it is a blow to lose Tyson, who has scored more than 20 goals in each of the last two seasons – including ten for Forest.

But he says it will be an opportunity for some of the other forwards to make an impact and backed Neil Harris to finally launch his Forest career.

‘We have to wait on the scan to get the full diagnosis, but it looks quite a nasty one,’ said Calderwood. ‘He is very sore at the minute, but we will get him scanned during the week.’

‘He is definitely out tomorrow, but it does not look as if it is a short-term injury. It looks a serious one. The doctors have said he has stretched the medial ligament, but they can’t say how much because it is too sore to touch or to try to manipulate it. It is not the ideal start, but that is why you are never sure what your team will be, you should always be flexible and we showed a good mentality.’
