Fans Have To Get Behind The Team

Admittedly through CC’s inept tactics/team selection etc, the fans have had precious little to cheer about. However, the home support I find is generally pretty shocking, though this might be because I sit in the Upper Clough. In my experience there is very rarely any encouragement or positive singing, and whilst the fans’ reactions are justified, there is no doubt in my mind that they hinder the side more than help them, especially at home.

Look at it this way. Carlisle had an excellent run of home form in 14 straight wins, and when they lose 2-0 just one time they still get clapped/cheered off. If forest won 45 games and lost 2-0 at home on the last day of the season, they’d still get booed. The upshot being, that Carlisle’s players know they have the fans backing, so aren’t scared to go out and play the next week, and so will probably win. Forest look like they’re scared to play in front of the crowd at the CG, and I can’t personally blame them.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m as upset and wanting to moan as the next man, but all this (admittedly understandable) ill feeling can’t have a positive effect at all. I’m pretty sure one of the important differences between us and Carlisle or Swansea this year (aside from team management quality) has been quality of home support. The CG isn’t a nice place for Forest lads to play anymore, and we’re missing out on a lot because of it.
