Calderwood & NEP Are Both Clueless

Nottingham Forest served up their umpteenth below par performance of the season last night, in the 1-1 dire draw at the City Ground. Not for the first time this season, fans vented their frustrations and feelings with a chorus of boos and once again called for the manager to stand down.

The Nottingham Evening Post claims that ‘fans are making it hard for Forest’ with their booing and criticism of the team. Maybe they have a point, but what are fans supposed to do after watching the club fail for a fourth consecutive year?

The lowest crowd for a League game since 2001 turned up at the City Ground last night and it’s set to go lower if we fail again this time round. Supporters have a genuine concern that failure is inevitable. Crowds of 20,000 plus have been the norm for us in League 1, but many have seen enough and have voted with their feet. Those that are left are the hardcore that will go no matter what. But the Evening Post and the club should not expect us to do it without batting an eyelid. It’s because we love this club and want it to succeed that we can’t tolerate things the way they are.

We have backed this club through thick and thin. It’s been all thin of late and it’s now time for a bit of the other. We will not sit idly by and watch the hierarchy of the club continue to kill it. Nor will we sit idly by and be criticised by our local paper and have our support called into question. The boos that were heard last night and previous games were aimed at the manager. The fans are baffled with his selections and tactics and are left deflated by the teams performances. We know we have no divine right to be playing at the top level, but we have a right to expect better than what is being delivered week in week out.

Colin Calderwood thinks we aren’t helping the team either. What he fails to see is that the anger of the fans is aimed at him and not the team. He told the NEP. ‘It is not a nice situation. It is one that the players do not like to perform in and I don’t think they should have to, if I am honest. Everyone makes a mistake. If it was a lack of effort I could understand criticism being voiced but there wasn’t. So a careful thought process is required and a little bit of common sense. What will help the players on the pitch?’

Fans believe that his departure several weeks ago would have helped the team on the pitch. But that’s far too late now. To blame the fans is a cheap shot by both the paper and the manager. Feelings may have got heated at the game last night, but that’s nothing compared to what it will be if he fails as we suspect he will. Those diehard fans that were there last night, will be the one’s who are there next year. The same can not be said for the manager.
