I’m not quite sure what sparked this debate in particular, but I’m glad that it came about all the same.
It’s always nice to debate players and their place in the team, even if it’s just on a whim, and this question certainly sparked a debate amongst the Forest fanbase.
@CityGroundShelf stated on Twitter on Monday that he felt Sammy Ameobi should be the first name on the team sheet for Nottingham Forest. There is some validity to his argument, given that he currently shares the record for most assists for the team this season with Joe Lolley. Although seeing as Lolley has more goals that him, there’s probably more to his argument than that.
Indeed, his argument seemed to be based on what you don’t see on the stat sheet, saying that “his influence can be game changing”. That seemed to be the tone that the rest of the discussion took amongst the rest of the Forest fans, with some saying that his, how can I put this, erratic nature is what makes him the player that he is.
An opinion that might divide opinion. But Ameobi is one of the first names on the team sheet for me. You’ve got to have him in the team on the basis that he might do something magical. Ignore what goes before or after. His influence can be game changing #nffc

No idea what he’s going to do but then again no one else does, probably including himself….
Not a bad free— JoeMF (@JoeMF7) February 18, 2020
Agreed. He’s the best we have in that position

Last 3 games his played (since Birmingham) been one of the better players and shouldn’t of been subbed as early as he was

Agreed like stevie wonder on ice for 89 minutes but can turn a game in the 1 minute he gets it right..awkward to play against I would imagine to

It’s so true. There’s no inbetween with him, he’s either like a daddy long legs ice skating or Messi. One minute you’ll be moaning about how bad he is & the next minute he skins 5 players & scores a Worldy. Even if it’s 95% rubbish 5% magic it’s worth it. Can change a game #nffc

He’s not always pretty but he’s in the team because he impacts games, i’d rather have a player that falls over like bambi 50% of the time but gets assists and goals than one who looks great but doesn’t contribute to the stat sheet. He’s a moneyball player is Ameobi.

Is Sammy Ameobi our most important player?
Yes
No
Do you think he should be ‘the first name on the team sheet’?
