Colin Calderwood says Nottingham Forest have given themselves new belief in their promotion credentials after bouncing back from behind to beat Millwall.

The Reds boss praised his side for producing one of their best attacking displays under his tenure.

Forest had to claw their way back after Millwall took a fourth-minute lead through Ben May.

Calderwood admitted they had made a poor start but was encouraged by the manner in which they hit back with three second-half goals, to claim another emphatic win and extend their unbeaten run to nine matches.

‘Everyone has a new belief or a re-inforced belief about what they thought of the team and the club, because they have given everything,’ he said. ‘Everyone can walk away and say that every single player has given their absolute maximum.

‘Of course, within that, there were mistakes. But they played with their heads and their hearts for the club.

‘It doesn’t give me more confidence, because I had that already. It does reinforce what I already thought about the group and what I thought of people when they were fit and the dangers we would pose to the opposition.

‘It was the players’ day because they have come back from a bleak-looking situation and got a super, super result.

‘You saw a group grow, you saw a real group effort. All we spoke about (at half-time) was that they had been in the position before and come back and we have the ability to go and do it again – and they have done it. You could see it, they found themselves in a real zone. Everything went for us but deservedly so, because they have given their hearts and souls for the season so far.

‘I am encouraged. If you give teams a lead at home you are not always going to come back but we had character and ability. They showed bucket-loads of ability in the second half.’

Calderwood admitted the match could have had a different outcome, had Millwall netted a second goal during a first half- hour in which they were on top.

‘For the neutral spectator the football was of a very high ”level.

”They started really well and we were second best (then) ,’ he said.
