Who needs to be spared for the good of the team?
That was the question that Nottingham Forest fans were asking themselves when it came to the comments made by a certain journalist.
Over the weekend, journalist Barry Cooper discussed (transcribed by Nottinghamshire Live) what Nottingham Forest’s summer could potentially look like when it comes to transfers, with a particular emphasis to who could be leaving the City Ground.
He believed it is vital for Forest to keep hold of the key players that have helped get them this far, and use this season as a building block rather than completely selling off all the star players and using the funds to build a whole new squad, using one player in particular from one of the promoted sides as an example.
“Keeping hold of your best players is paramount to move forward. Going back, Kalvin Phillips at Leeds was mooted to be interesting Spurs for in the region of £25-30m. You think ‘wow’ that’s a lot of money. They kept hold of him and suddenly they’re in the Premier League. The landscape changes somewhat. It’s about adding to that squad of players. It’s not just about going out and bringing in marquee players. Possibly those days are diluted.”
Will Forest sell any of our 'key players' this summer?
Yes
No
Although Cooper was trying to make the case of keeping the players together, fans were left wondering who out of the current squad might have to be let go in order to let the other players flourish next season.
Keep Lolley at all costs.
Worrall I'd happily keep but if we have to sell anyone I think he's the easiest to replace
