Results early in the season can be crucial at the end of it.

That was the message that Forest captain Michael Dawson wanted to stress as the team gets set to take on Stoke City tonight at the Bet365 Stadium.

Speaking during his press conference yesterday, Dawson spoke about the start that Forest have made to the season and how it has given them something to build on as they try to reach their aspirations at the start of the season.

“It is a great opportunity, after eight or nine games to see where we could be. You look at the points, it is great to play on Friday night as you can sit back on the Saturday and see the results. But it is only great if we can go there and win. You always want to be top, but the main thing is where we are in May, that is what our aim is. We have the opportunity to go top tomorrow night, it is a great opportunity. We have put ourselves in this position and hopefully we can take it.

Forest have made an incredible start to the season, but now is really the time that the club needs to take that step forward and start making a serious push to be considered amongst one of the top teams in the division. Not just now, but for the rest of the campaign to come.

I wrote in the summer that I felt this could be the year Forest finally achieve promotion, and whilst the start to the season has been promising, we need to really show our credentials, starting with tonight’s game against Stoke City. If we are to really put a marker down and show the league that we mean business, then we need to go out and start putting up more three and four-goal performances as we did against Birmingham City earlier in the season.

What about you? Do you think that this game serves as a marker for how far Forest have come under Lamouchi? Or do you think that
