Warburton Understands Millwall Importance

Manager Mark Warburton has said that everyone in the Nottingham Forest camp understands the importance of Friday’s Championship opener against Millwall.

Stressing the importance of ‘unity’ as he spoke to the Official Forest Site this week, Forest fans have backed the side in tremendous numbers with record season ticket sales and we are pretty much a full house at the City Ground for the 2017/18 opener.

Knowing the difference the crowd can make on the day, Warburton is keenly aware that the players have to respond to that and put in a performance.

‘I hope it is a full house here on Friday. The backing in terms of season cards is outstanding, and early as well. The fans showed their backing and belief and the players respond to that. The players are well aware of those figures and they know what they have to do. They have a responsibility to excite the fans and this club needs to be moving up the table. It is great to have their backing and we have to maintain the quality of performance to keep that backing in place and I hope every time we play here we have nearly a full house.’

Adding.

‘The players need to know that everyone is buying into it. The fans are excited by a new season; there has been some difficult years but now we are in a good place and the players need to know how the fans respond.’

Warburton ended by saying that throwing around phrases like ‘togetherness’ and ‘unity’ are probably overused too often in the game but the bottom line is it’s true.

‘There has to be a togetherness. It is a statement used too often but it is all about the unity and the harmony displayed by the players, the staff, the fans and by the whole club. It is not just at the training ground or just at The City Ground, it is about one club together and if you can get it right, the results can be quite spectacular.’
