It was a point won rather than two lost, according to manager Billy Davies following the 1-1 draw with Sheff Weds yesterday and from the reports of most fans that witnessed the game, he was right. Dexter Blackstock’s opener, was cancelled out by yet another own goal from Wes Morgan, which means that 4 of the 9 goals conceded by us so far this season, have been scored by ourselves! Our 16th place standing in the League though, gives hope of better things to come, now that the lads are beginning to find their feet in the division.
The top of the Championship table after only 6 games, has a predictable look about it, with the usual suspects of WBA, Middlesbrough and the Geordies of Newcastle occupying the top 3 places. West Brom continued their good start with a 3-1 home win over Plymouth and Boro beat Roy Keane’s struggling Ipswich 3-1, also at home. But, Newcastle could go top today, if they win away at Cardiff.
Sheffield United continued to make life in the Championship, a miserable one for Nigel Clough at the Sheepdip, as the Blunts ran away with the points, thanks to an 80th minute header from Matthew Kilgallon. Forest sit just a point behind the Mutton Molesters, with the Rams on 7 points. Our wannabe rivals Fester, are continuing to do well and lie in 6th place in the table, after a Matty Fryatt brace gave them the points in their 2-1 win over Blackpool.
Down at the basement, Barnsley remain bottom following a 1-0 away defeat at Watford. The Reds’ next opponents Ipswich, are also finding life tough under Roy Keane, as they remain 2nd from bottom after the defeat to Boro. Some Ipswich fans are already calling for Keane’s head and those calls could get louder if Forest can pull off their first away win on Tuesday night.
